Gameballs - 27th May 2004
After another loss to the Galaxy we found ourselves spending the week in Frankfurt in preparation for an unusual Friday night game versus the Admirals. The practices took place in the afternoon after the Galaxy had finished theirs. The weather held up for both parties with sunshine throughout the week, even though our team was filling a little dull after the lost to them in which we actually put up some impressive offensive stats. Scott and I were actually impressed with the facilities that the Galaxy can call home. I must say they don't hurt for any kind of equipment. On one certain night at the bar in the hotel Scott came up with a drinking game appropriately called "Blind Death".On Thursday we once again packed our equipment van and Dave "Skippy" Smith drove all our equipment to Amsterdam while we took the train from Frankfurt to Amsterdam. I must say that the German-Dutch train puts our British railway system and Virgin trains to shame. We were impressed with the tilting seats each with their own TV screen and power points for our other electrical needs. We were also impressed with the spacious cabins and leg room.
Upon arriving in Amsterdam we called it a night......a very long night. The following evening after the cardiac Claymores pulled off their second win of the season, we packed our van and decided it would be quicker to get home by driving in the van with Skippy. We reached Dover, by way of the ferry, at about 6:30 in the morning. There we split up the van load into another van due to the massive weight it had to carry. Scott and I drove one van all the way to Scotland while the other van was driven by Skippy and his partner. We reached Glasgow around 2 in the afternoon exhausted from the long trip but we still had to unload the van and do laundry which lasted till about 6 that night. The good part was that we got home about 2hrs before the team did. This week has been good with the finish line of the season in view. This is the most excited week of the season for us considering we get to see ex-Claymores Jim Tomsula, Don Eck, Reggie McElroy, Dave Zuffelato, and Martin Streight. With the addition of Kevin Duddy, the equipment manager from 2001-2002, and Jimmy Ntelekos, the trainer from 2002-2003 it is sure to be a crazy weekend.
P.S. Before we go we'd like to give a big shout out to the staff at the San Diego Chargers. BEWARE, the Haunted Hotel Menace is coming soon.
Football facts:
- The reason for the black markings under the player's eyes is to keep the reflection of the sun out of their eyes.
- The biggest shoe size that we have given out this year was a size 16 to Chris Smith.
- You'd be surprised, but no one on the team wears a protective cup.
