Grangemouth Broncos fly the "Flag" at Falkirk awards

The Grangemouth Broncos picked up TEN AWARDS in the Falkirk District Sports Council Annual Scroll Awards, including 3 top 3 places.

The Scroll Awards recognise individuals, groups, clubs and teams who have brought merit and distinction to the Falkirk Council area through their achievements in, or service to, sport, the arts, the community and other activities.

The Broncos legendary junior squad added to their long list of achievements by winning the Club Team award. The junior team is in transition as it has lost several of its most influential players this year due to the age restrictions. Coach Charlie Ewing looks forward to building the new players into a group as formidable as the all-conquering squad who set the standards for Scottish teams at GB and European level.

Despite just turning 16, Jonathan Ewing was runner-up in the Individual Under 18 category after showcasing his abilities as captain of the winning GB junior squad at the recent Euro Flag tournament in Bologna. Jonathan has been the leading junior player in Flag Football in Scotland over the last few years and a fine ambassador for the sport. He was understandably pleased with the award.“ It’s a great way for me to bring the curtain down on my flag career as I move on to kitted football. Holding aloft the Euro trophy as captain of the GB team was the pinnacle of my time playing Flag Football and it’s always nice to get recognition from your home city".

The Ewing family celebrations continued as Jonathan’s younger brother David picked up a bronze at the Individual under 14 level. David’s accurate arm and cool demeanour saw him earn the top cadet QB rating in Bologna as he fired the GB squad to 3rd place. Asked if he felt any pressure in following the footsteps of his sibling he said “ No not really. We play different positions, so I can just enjoy playing without us being compared or me feeling I have to try and break his records.”
