Claymores Set to Host Third Summer Camp

FOOTBALL crazy teenagers are being offered the chance to immerse themselves in their favourite sport at the Third Annual Youth Summer Camp

The four-day gridiron get together takes place in Glasgow between Monday, August 11th-Thursday August 14th 2003.

The residential course, run by the Scottish Claymores and NFL Europe League is being held in partnership with Glasgow City Council, who are celebrating their position as European Cpaital of Sport 2003. Camp is open to all football players aged 14-19 and coaches are also invited to attend on an observational basis.

All participants will be based at the College of Nautical Studies in Glasgow city centre, with the training camp designed to give the participants an intensive exposure to the fundamentals and techniques of football.

It costs £100 and will be hosted by National coach Steve McCusker, GB Youth head coach Simon Newnham, Claymores grassroots co-ordinator Jim Burns and legendary wide receiver Scott Couper, with guest appearances from other Claymores players. There will also be a number of NFLE American coaches flown over to coach at the camp.

All meals and accommodation are included in the cost and each player who attends will be given a t-shirt, practice shirt, certificate on completion and personal Summer Camp playbook.

Over the four days, players will take part in eight football practice sessions and enjoy comprehensive video analysis from fully professional coaching staff. There will also be individual technique training and full professional athletic testing plus much, much more.

McCusker said: "Demand is always strong and we anticipate this year it will be higher than ever before. We're packing a lot into the four days, hence the reason it's residential.

"Teenagers interested in football will not be given a better grounding in the sport and we're looking forward to working with a lot of young, dedicated athletes who will have great fun and enjoyment from their time in training camp.

"The NFLE talent scouts will use the Europe wide camps as a means to scout players for 2004 Team Europe, since there are no European Junior Championships until the summer of 2004. The summer camps are invaluable, as they allow us to get practice film of potential Team Europe kids and also allow us to athletically test them."
