Edinburgh Wolves Leave Lair to Hunt for Away Victory

This Saturday Edinburgh's own American Football team the Wolves set out on the first of three away games in a row when they travel to face the Glasgow Tigers (Cambuslang Rugby Club 2:30pm).

Originally the Wolves had expected to host Glasgow one week later on the 11th of May but due to scheduling problems the fixture has now been switched to the 7th of June. This means the Wolves face three away games on the trot. Wolves General Manager Douglas Adamson accepts this is what life in the British Senior League (BSL) is going to be like "Certainly no-one relishes playing more than two games away from home in a row. But this is a league set up so scheduling irregularities like this will happen. It's just part of the game. I can't deny it makes the logistics much more difficult to manage, not to mention the cash flow."

The Wolves are without a sponsor for their current campaign in the BSL and are still facing start up costs for equipment even before their 2003 campaign costs are considered. They know it's vital for the clubs future they get support from local American Football fans and land a cash sponsorship deal.

"Having three road games means we won't be able to get Edinburgh Gridiron fans down to Jack Kane Centre to support us until June. Hopefully our local visibility will not be dented - particularly as we are trying to land a sponsor. Never the less it is just one of those things that we have to deal with since we are representing Edinburgh and playing in a UK wide league."

With trips to Glasgow (3rd May), Dundee (17th May) and Gateshead (25th May) before the end of the month the Wolves will certainly be travelling far and wide in the north of the UK. However this amount of travel is small compared to the travelling the Wolves Rookie of the year Jeff Nicolson is clocking up with the Scottish Claymores this season. Ironically the Wolves and Claymores will both be playing in Glasgow this weekend barely a mile away - but on different days. As usual many of the Wolves players will be turning out to see their team mate Nicolson play for the Claymores.

The contest between Glasgow and Edinburgh is an early crunch game for both sides following losses in their respective first games of the season. Ironically both teams began their season against the currently undefeated Gateshead Senators. Already Gateshead have been targeted as the team to beat in the Second Division Northern Conference having playing last season in Division One.
