Flame Bowl a success
Grangemouth Sports Stadium was witness to a feast of exciting Flag Football competition on Saturday 25th September 2004. The event was supported by a total of 13 SFFA member teams, who came together to provide the days entertainment. The competition was broken down into two major age groups Cadet (under 12) and Junior (under 15).
In the Cadet competition, kindly sponsored by McDonalds, saw 5 teams battle it out in a round robin format with the over all winner taking the title of Flame Bowl Champion. The cadet teams participating were Grangemouth Broncos, Glasgow Sabres, Glasgow Hornets, and two Glasgow Tiger squads the Siberians and the Bengals.
The Junior competition was sponsored by BP and saw the 8 teams split into two groups of four with the top teams from each group playing in the final for the Champion title. The junior teams taking part consisted of Group A - Grangemouth Broncos, Glasgow Tigers, Glasgow Sabres and Craigmount Cougars (Edinburgh) and Group B - Glasgow Hornets, Ayr Anarchy, Graeme High School Titans (Falkirk) and Kilmarnock Colts.
Over the course of the day the event produced over 20 spectacular games which enthralled those who had turned up to watch. The level of game play, skill and determination exhibited by the players added to the excitement of each game. The cadet competition wasn't short of excitement as the Borncos battled it out with the Siberians to see who would come through worthy champions, while both the Tigers Junior and the Hornets squads put aside some tough opposition in their groups to face one another in what was to be a thrilling final game that held the spectators attention right up until the last play of the game.
However it was to be the Glasgow Tigers day, as they came through worthy winners at both Cadet and Junior level, both ending the day with unbeaten records. And it was again to the Tigers that the focus was turned as the MVP trophies were awarded. Andrew Steen was Cadet MVP while Andrew Burns picked up the MVP for the Juniors. It was a clean sweep for The Glasgow Tigers Flag Football Club.
As the sun set on a very successful Flame Bowl event, the Grangemouth Broncos could pat themselves on the back for hosting one of the best organised and successful one day events of Flag Football yet.
