Scottish Claymores - American Football in Scotland

Cheerleader Alison Aiming to make NFL Grade

CHEERLEADER Alison Turner is aiming to become the Scottish Claymores' first
NFL cheerleader.

American Alison cheered with the Claymores last season as an exchange
student from her college in South Carolina and has now hooked up with the
Atlanta Falcons in the hope of being the first cheerleader to cheer for both
NFL Europe and the NFL.

An NCA staff cheerleader back home, she was keen to keep up her dancing while living in Scotland for a year and was a welcome addition to the 2004 Claymores Cheerleader Squad. Alison joined the squad and studied at the University of Strathclyde while living in Glasgow's west end and took part in Claymores promotions throughout the year.

Having returned to her native Atlanta, Alison was chosen to represent the Scottish Claymores at the prestigious ProDance professional sports dance convention in Las Vegas this week, where she has been dancing alongside cheerleaders from the NFL, NBA and arena football teams. And she has made some new friends in the form of the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders.

Alison explained: "I met the Falcons cheerleaders on the plane and we got chatting about their squad. I told them all about what the cheerleaders did over in Scotland and they were really impressed.

"We've been attending the classes together over here and they've invited me to try out for the Falcons Cheerleaders next spring - I'm really looking forward to it."

Alison is learning from the greatest choreographers in the world at the camp and will bring the routines back for the Claymores squad to use for their next season.

She said: "The talent here is unbelievable. The choreographers have worked on every major music artist's videos and for Super Bowls, American Bowls and even Hollywood feature films. The routines the girls will be doing back in Scotland will be the same as the ones they're doing on the field during the NFL season!"

This is the third year the Claymores Cheerleaders have attended the ProDance convention.

Claymores Cheerleader Manager, Debbie Jackson, said: "I attended the convention two years ago and was blown away by the high standard. I wanted to make sure some of the other girls could get to experience dancing alongside the very best in the business.

"It's great that cheerleading is moving on in Scotland and now we have paved the way for other squads to go and learn from the top names in sports dance."
